Decadent Decks

By Beacon Staff

While bagging that long-sought-after peak or racking up the miles on that nice new mountain bike are certainly rewarding achievements, there is still something satisfying about just kicking up your feet on a deck with a scenic view. Here are four perfect patios you need to visit this summer.

The Raven
Can’t afford that trip to Mexico this year? That’s OK, because you can head south to Woods Bay and sip margaritas on one of The Raven’s two lakeside decks. And if you’re worried about it being a little cooler in Montana than Mexico, never fear, because the deck is heated for those cool summer evenings. The Raven has been a Flathead Lake staple for years, with its fun Caribbean-style atmosphere. You can even dock your boat and pop in for lunch or a drink. 25999 MT Highway 35, Bigfork

Casey’s Skybar
While every local has their favorite watering hole, few can deny the awesomeness that is Casey’s Skybar in downtown Whitefish. Casey’s offers the valley’s only rooftop drinking and dining and the one-of-a-kind fire tables will keep you warm on those cool evenings when you take in the stunning views of Whitefish Lake and Big Mountain. A sunset from the roof is not to be missed. 101 Central Ave., Whitefish

The Lodge at Whitefish Lake
If heights aren’t your thing, then the ground level views from the back deck at the Lodge at Whitefish Lake are a perfect substitute, and it comes with the added bonus of a cool breeze coming off the lake. The Boat Club Lounge and Tiki Bar & Grill offer the only lakefront dining in Whitefish and the fare is sure to please. On June 27 and 28, the deck will have some added entertainment with the Whitefish Woody Weekend when more than 30 wooden boat owners will parade their vintage vessels past the deck throughout the weekend. 1380 Wisconsin Ave, Whitefish.

Many Glacier Hotel
While the view from your backyard deck may be nice, it has nothing on the sights that can be taken in on the Many Glacier Hotel deck on the shores of Swiftcurrent Lake on the east side of Glacier National Park. The Great Northern Railway began construction of the hotel in 1914 and it was completed in 1915. One of the highlights is the spacious deck where you can sit and view the nearby mountain peaks. Who needs to climb when you can kick back and enjoy the same view? 1 Route 3, Babb.
