By Beacon Staff

Four state parks on Flathead Lake are now under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions effective midnight tonight, the Montana State Parks announced today.

The fire restrictions are in effect at Big Arm State Park, Finley Point State Park, Wild Horse Island State Park and Yellow Bay State Park.

At Big Arm, Finley Point and Yellow Bay state parks, campfires are only permitted in designated steel fire grates. Propane and LPG camp stoves are allowed. Smoking is not allowed except in enclosed vehicles or developed sites at least three feet in diameter and cleared of all flammable materials.

At Wild Horse Island, all campfires and open flames are prohibited. The building of campfires within steel fire grates will not be permitted in these parks. Propane and LPG camp stoves are allowed. Smoking is not allowed.

The restrictions are being implemented in coordination with Confederated Salish and Kootenai lands and lands administered by the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC).

An update on the state parks website will be issued when the restrictions are lifted.
