14-Year-Old in Custody After Bringing Gun to Smith Valley School

A 14-year-old boy is in custody after bringing a 9mm handgun to Smith Valley School Wednesday. The juvenile, whose name was not released, has been charged with possessing a weapon in a school building, according to a press release from Flathead County Sheriff Mike Meehan.

A classmate reportedly told a teacher at Smith Valley Wednesday that the boy had a firearm on campus. Deputies arrived and conducted interviews with teachers, students and parents. After searching the juvenile’s mother’s and grandfather’s homes, the handgun was recovered.

Further charges could be forthcoming, according to the Flathead County Attorney’s Office.
