Thanksgiving weekend marks the green light for Christmas decoration.
Some people start pulling out the boxes of lights, electric candles, and nativity scenes on that first Friday. You’ll see moms and dads across the country up on ladders, trailing strands of lights into the arms of someone smaller standing below with their head craning up; the remnants of Turkey dinner still cooling in Tupperware.
The rest of us just try to get the tree up, and decorated, before Christmas.
A fundraiser in Bigfork may just add the finishing touches to that Charles Dickens Christmas village on the mantel, or brighten up your apartment’s only front-facing window.
The Bigfork Art and Cultural Center is auctioning off mini-Christmas trees.
“We were kind of hard hit this year,” says the Center’s director, Manie Forbis. Forbis says they couldn’t get the participation they needed this year, and couldn’t do several fundraisers.
The mini-trees were unveiled during the Bigfork Art Walk on November 17th. Individuals and businesses cover the cost of getting the trees, and local artists decorate them, they range in size from 1-foot to 2-and-a-half feet tall, and vary in theme. You can view the trees at the Bigfork Art and Cultural Center, and write out your bid. The silent auction ends on December 8th at 5 PM. All the proceeds will benefit the Center.
