John Keenan Works at Wheaton's

After 50th Birthday, Local Man Bikes 2,550 Miles

John Keenan did what most guys do when they turn 50. He went on a 2,550-mile bike trip across Alaska, Canada and back home to Kila, averaging more than 80 miles per day throughout the epic summer trip. Isn't that what you did right after your 50th birthday?

Keenan, who works at Wheaton's, was well-prepared for the long journey – he was already accustomed to commuting 45 miles round trip on his bicycle each day from his home in Kila to Wheaton's in Kalispell. He rode with a partner, Jeff Bott, for most of the trip. Now back in Montana, Keenan has stories about lunch with a native tribe in British Columbia celebrating their first salmon fishing day and swimming in wild northern lakes. He experienced only two flat tires on his redline cyclocross titanium bike, both of which he repaired with spare tubes he carried on the trip.

If you want to know more about his trip or are considering a similar journey, give him a call at Wheaton's at 257-5808.

Here are some photos from his trip:
