AmeriCorps Looking For Volunteers this Friday

By Beacon Staff

AmeriCorps is looking for volunteers on Friday, March 8 to help build a house in Kalispell. An AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps team is spending 11 weeks in the Flathead Valley helping future homeowners build six houses for low-income families. The team is working with the Community Action Partnership of Northwest Montana and the Mutual Self-Help Housing program.

The NCCC team, known as “Blue 3,” most recently assisted Habitat for Humanity with building projects in the northeast, following Superstorm Sandy. The Corps members said they are excited to start working in the Flathead.

“We are a very eager team. And our goal is to practice patience, so we can take in and learn what we need to before jumping into work,” Demani Renaud said.

If you want to help out, bring a sturdy pair of work boots to 580 Triple Creek Dr. at 8 a.m. on Friday, March 8. The workday will take place regardless of weather and AmeriCorps is working with several local eateries to provide lunch. Be sure to bring water. For more information, call Valerie at (916) 717-9963.
