Thursday June 21 is FWP's “Fishing Without Barriers Day.” Anglers with disabilities are hosted for free fishing trips on Flathead.
“The last few years we’ve had our max number of people turn up,” FWP spokesman John Fraley says. This year, they still got room for more anglers, especially those under 18.
“It’s attracted people from as far away as Billings and Missoula,” Fraley says, “We usually catch between 50 to 100 lake trout.” Participants fish from 9 a.m. to about noon, then return to Hidden Harbor, formerly the Woods Bay Marina, for a fish-fry, barbecue and picnic.
This is the 14th year for Fishing Without Barriers. The Montana Charter Boat Association sponsors the event along with FWP.
So far about 44 people have signed up; they can take a maximum of 70. Fraley says they need everyone on board by Friday, June 15. Call FWP at 752-5501 to sign up or to volunteer.
What a great idea, and kudos to the sponsors of this event. Thanks for the heads-up… if you have no objection, I will add this to my Flathead Lake blog to help you get the word out. Thank you, Glacier National Park & Flathead Lake Blog http://glaciernationalpark.blogspot.com/
