Approaching First Wolf Trapping Season, FWP Schedules Mandatory Classes
Prospective trappers are required to attend one of 28 certification courses offered statewide
With Montana's first wolf trapping season approaching, mandatory certification classes are being offered for prospective trappers. The classes will focus on methods of properly harvesting a wolf through trapping.
The Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission recently approved the state's third wolf hunting season and included a new trapping season to run Dec. 15 through Feb. 28. Trapping licenses are now on sale and cost $20 for residents and $250 for nonresidents.
Prospective trappers are required to attend one of 28 certification classes offered statewide in September and October and receive a Montana trapping license.
Online registration is now open for certification classes across northwest Montana. Local classes are scheduled for the following dates and locations:
To participate in a class, potential trappers must register online through the FWP website. The system will ask for contact information including your ALS number if you have one.
Classes will also be held at other locations across the state; details on these and other classes can be found online.

Sep 18: Kalispell, Fairgrounds, 4 p.m. - 10 p.m.

Sep 29: Trout Creek, Lakeside Motel, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Oct 13: Kalispell, Fairgrounds, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.
Dec 8: Kalispell, Fairgrounds, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.

“trapping with a bunch of idiots will only give sportsmen a further black eye. If the eye gets black enough pretty soon reasonable people will begin to call an end to our hunting heritage and not just the crazies from back east or out west.”…
