ASU’s Backup QB Osweiler Wants to Play Hoops Too

By Beacon Staff

Arizona State’s backup quarterback Brock Osweiler, who is from Kalispell, says he wants to play basketball in addition to football.

ASU spokesman Randy Policar told The Daily Inter Lake in Kalispell on Wednesday the 6-foot-8 sophomore has expressed an interest in playing a second sport once football season ends. Policar says the request is being considered and “steps are being taken,” but football remains Osweiler’s priority.

Osweiler, a 2009 graduate of Flathead High, received all-state honors in basketball his first three years of high school before forgoing his senior season to participate in spring football practices in Tempe, Arizona. He made a verbal commitment to play basketball for Gonzaga following his freshman season in high school but decided after his junior year to pursue football.

The Sun Devils basketball team starts the season Tuesday, but Policar says Osweiler would not play hoops until the end of the football season, which includes three games and a possible bowl.
