BILLINGS – A deadly weekend in Montana where avalanches are believed to have claimed three lives.

Park County officials say a snowmobiler was reportedly stuck when an avalanche began in the mountains north of Cooke City near Daisy Pass at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The snowmobiler was not immediately located, and officials plan to resume searching Monday.

An Idaho snowmobiler was killed in an avalanche that occurred on Mount Jefferson in the Centennial Range in Beaverhead County. Authorities say he was with a group of snowmobilers who could not dig him out in time.

A third person died in an avalanche in the Gravelly Range near Black Butte.

The Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center says the victim was part of a group of snowmobilers who found his sled in avalanche debris at the base of a small slope.
