Baucus: Kennedy’s Spirit ‘Going to Be Even Stronger Now’

Montana Sen. Max Baucus called into MSNBC Wednesday, and Andrea Mitchell asked him what was likelihood of Congress passing health care reform.
Baucus didn’t say whether he thought the Senate Finance Committee would meet a Sept 15 deadline for health care reform legislation set by the White House.
SEN. BAUCUS: Well, ironically, I think that the spirit and passion of Ted's going to be even stronger now in us passing this. It's unfortunate, but I think that's the case. I've never known a more effective legislator. I think Ted Kennedy is the most -- is the greatest and most effective legislator of modern American time. It was because he was so passionate and worked so hard, a gifted speaker, but then he would sit down and work out an agreement. He'd compromise and he'd realize, okay, there are two sides to this and let's figure out how to get this thing passed.
