Baucus Ranked Sixth Most Powerful Senator

BILLINGS – Max Baucus is the sixth most powerful member of the U.S. Senate, according to a report released Monday by Congress.org.

The nonpartisan group ranks Baucus ahead of Hillary Clinton and John McCain. The Montana Democrat ranked seventh in last year's poll.

Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., earned the No. 1 spot this year, followed by Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass.

Democratic Sen. Jon Tester, meanwhile, came in 92nd out of 100 senators.

The poll rates members of Congress on various criteria that demonstrate power and the ability to be effective at advancing an agenda, such as membership on key committees.

On the House side, Republican Rep. Denny Rehberg came in at 343rd out of 435.
