The Polson Lady Pirates scrapped with the No.1 Bigfork Valkyries for three quarters in the first of Friday’s Northwest A girls semifinals, but a three-and-a-half minute scoreless drought midway through the fourth quarter spelled a 60-45 defeat for No. 4 Polson.

Bigfork took control midway through the third quarter when Avery Vogel banked in a three-pointer with four minutes left in the quarter. On the Valkyries’ ensuing possession Alyssa Fierro converted a three-point play to put Bigfork ahead by nine. The Vals never looked back, extending their lead to as many as 19 points.

Fierro was virtually unstoppable in the low post, scoring a game-high 20 points while Vogel provided consistent play from the point guard spot, adding 14 points. Merilee Mowbray led Polson with 16 points.

Bigfork will face the winner of Whitefish and Libby in the divisional championship Saturday at 6 p.m.
