Bigfork Advances to Football Quarterfinals

By Beacon Staff

With heavy hearts, Bigfork defeated Townsend 28-7 in the opening round of the Class B football playoffs last weekend.

Before the game in Bigfork, a moment of silence was held for 2012 Bigfork graduate Matt Edwards, who died in a car accident last week. Townsend had a similar tragedy occur this fall when one of its players, Dakota Kimbrough, also died in a car accident.

Bigfork (9-0) hosts Baker (9-0) at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The Vikings scored 22 second-half points to defeat Townsend. Boyd Rieke carried the ball 19 times for 126 yards and the game-breaking score. Vinny Quirk, who had a 1-yard TD burst, rushed eight times for 47 yards. Cameron Nissen caught three passes for 45 yards and also hauled in two PAT conversion passes.

Bigfork is attempting to return to the semifinals for the second consecutive season.

Choteau eliminated Eureka from the postseason with a 30-6 victory.
