No. 1 Bigfork used a fourth quarter surge to take down the No. 3 Whitefish Lady Bulldogs 49-40 in the Northwest A divisional girls championship game.

Both teams advance to the state tournament in Hamilton in March.

The game was tied at 22 at halftime, but the Valkyries trailed 30-28 entering the fourth quarter. Then in the fourth, the Vals outscored Whitefish 21-10 to put the game away. Alyssa Fierro, a 6-foot-2 senior, scored seven points in the final frame for the Vals. She finished with 13 for the game. Hattie Bowen led the Vals with 16 points.

Ashley Ferda scored 18 points for the Lady Bulldogs to lead all scorers.

Down 44-37 with a little more than two minutes left in the game, Whitefish’s Amanda Ormsby rebounded a Ferda miss and put it back in for two points. She was fouled on the play and hit a free throw to bring the score to 44-40 with 2:14 left. Whitefish didn’t score again.

Bigfork finished undefeated in conference play, going 12-0 in Northwest A and 19-1 overall. The Vals have only lost one conference game in the last two years. Whitefish finished the season with a 13-8 record, going 9-4 in the conference.
