Flathead Valley Community College has accepted a 27-acre donation of land on Foothill Road valued at $420,000 from an anonymous resident in Bigfork.
The property was given to the college to be used for educational purposes, including instruction, research and activities consistent with FVCC’s mission, according to school officials.
“This beautiful Montana setting will provide exceptional opportunities for our students in natural resources, physical and biological sciences and art and will offer an exciting, new venue for students of all ages in FVCC’s continuing education classes and programs,” said FVCC President Jane Karas.
“We thank the donors for this unique and generous gift and all the possibilities it will offer for the community.”
The property has diverse vegetation, topography and geology as well as historical and cultural significance. It borders Montana State Trust Land and is close to the Jewel Basin Hiking Area with Lake Blaine to the north and the Swan Range to the east.
The college is developing plans for classes and programs that will utilize this site in the near future.
