Billings City Council Tables Medical Marijuana Ordinance

BILLINGS – The Billings City Council has tabled an emergency ordinance that would have limited where medical marijuana businesses could be located.

Two weeks ago, Councilman Denis Pitman recommended an emergency ordinance that would have kept medical marijuana businesses away from residential zones as well as schools, churches, parks and day-care centers.

The proposed six-month ordinance would have given the city time to work on permanent rules.

But after medical marijuana proponents testified at Monday's council meeting, with at least two threatening lawsuits, the council voted 10-0 to table the measure. The council said it would direct its staff to develop a revised ordinance for later consideration.
