Body of Missing Kalispell Man Found in Glacier Park

By Beacon Staff

The body of a 25-year-old Kalispell man who went missing almost a week ago was discovered in Glacier National Park.

Cody Lee Johnson’s body was recovered near The Loop along the Going-to-the-Sun Road on Friday morning, according to an announcement from park officials tonight. The Loop is a popular trail off the Sun Road on the west side of the park.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of death. Anyone with information that may be related to Johnson’s death is encouraged to contact the park at (406) 888-7801.

Johnson was last seen at his home in Kalispell on July 7. He left with unidentified friends in a dark-colored passenger car and had not been seen by his family since, according to the police department.

On Friday, at approximately 9:45 a.m., park dispatch received a report of a body located just below The Loop. Due to the steep and rocky terrain, a helicopter and specialized short-haul rescue team from Parks Canada assisted with the recovery of the body. During the recovery, the Sun Road was temporarily closed.

The Kalispell Police Department, Flathead County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation assisted with the recovery operation.

Johnson’s body was transported to a local funeral home and an autopsy will be conducted.

The discovery of Johnson’s body marked the second death in Glacier Park this week and third this summer.

On Tuesday, July 9, Cesar Flores, Jr. of Davie, Fla., died while climbing Apikuni Mountain. He fell roughly 1,000 feet.

On Wednesday, June 26, Charles Fred Huseman of Packwood, Wash., was hiking along the Highline Trail near Logan Pass when he slipped and fell to his death on to the Sun Road.
