By Beacon Staff

HAVRE — Border patrol agents say they arrested a man who was carrying nearly 2 pound of marijuana during a check of an Amtrak train stopped in northern Montana.

The Havre Daily News reported Wednesday 23-year-old Ryan Smart is being held in the Hill County Detention Center in suspicion of dangerous drugs, possession with intent to sell, drugs on a train and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection says in a statement agents boarded the train April 17 and smelled marijuana. The statement says one man freely admitted he had been smoking marijuana and had more in his possession.

The border patrol agency says the man showed agents his backpack, which contained 1.85 pounds of marijuana. He was then arrested.
