‘Brutus’ Takes Aim at Flathead
Winter storms now get names because of social media
Those snowflakes that are coming down across the Flathead Valley this afternoon aren’t just any snowflakes – they have a name! The Weather Channel has started naming winter storms this year and the snowstorm making its way toward Montana is called “Brutus.”

The storm is expected to bring 2 to 5 inches of snow in the valleys, and 7 inches in the foothills, between now and Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Even more snow is expected to fall in the mountains.

“Brutus” is the second storm The Weather Channel has named this winter. Its predecessor “Athena” is currently making its way up the East Coast and covering New England in the white stuff. According to Mashable, the reason for the named storms is social media. Now, Twitter users can post about the storm and hashtag its name, which connects that tweet with all the other tweets about that storm. So keep an eye out for #Brutus on your Twitter.
