The First Best Place Task Force has a full schedule this week, which started Tuesday afternoon with the screening of the film “Eight Below.”
Rated PG and 120 minutes long, “Eight Below” is a story of two Antarctic Explorers who are forced to leave their sled dogs behind as they battle to survive. This movie was inspired by a true story, and is generally suitable for children (some mild language and peril).
On Thursday October 16th at 4pm, Jeff Ulsamer will present Dog Sled Adventures. Jeff began mushing and giving dog sled tours in 1979 with dogs he had rescued from the local animal shelter. He brings his wonderful insight and fascinating stories of life on the dog trail to a lively presentation for all ages. Come out to Discovery Square, meet some of Jeff’s dogs, sit on an antique dog sled, and learn all about the life of a musher!
On Saturday October 18th, the Task Force has organized Riverwalk Trail Volunteer Day from 8am until “whenever we’re done”.
Volunteers interested in working on the trail should gather at 8am at the west end of the Historic Red Bridge for a day of brush clearing, trash clean up, and trail sighting to kick off the Kreck Riverwalk Trail project. We’re building a natural walking path along the water’s edge from the bridge to Cedar Pointe subdivision on South Nucleus.
Workers are asked to dress appropriately for working in the brush, wear gloves, and to bring any good yard tools you have (clippers, small saws, heavy rakes, choppers, etc).
