Car Chase Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

By Beacon Staff

A Kalispell man accused of leading police on a high-speed chase through the valley before he was apprehended by citizens in Evergreen pleaded not guilty to a multitude of felonies stemming from the incident.

Jordan Elliot, 26, appeared before Judge Robert Allison on Jan. 24 for his arraignment, and entered not guilty pleas to the charges of theft, criminal endangerment, assault with a weapon, assault on a peace officer and criminal mischief, all of which are felonies. He is also charge with fleeing from or eluding a peace officer, a misdemeanor.

The Jan. 3 car chase began on the north end of Whitefish Stage Road, reportedly reaching high speeds, and ending in an Evergreen business’ parking lot where Elliot allegedly hit a sheriff’s vehicle and fled on foot.

He was apprehended by two citizens who had listened to the car chase on the police scanner. The man initially tried to detain Elliot, who prosecutors say then took the man’s flashlight and beat him about the face and head with it.

Elliot was finally detained when a woman held him at gunpoint with a hunting rifle until deputies arrived.

After entering his not guilty pleas, Elliot was taken into the sheriff’s custody once again, and was scheduled for trial in the court’s trial term beginning in April.
