Car Versus Moose and a Mysterious Fireball

Thursday 9/17

4:14 a.m. A resident of Martin City called to report that a man was sleeping in her attic. Authorities arrived to find the attic empty.

9:32 a.m. Someone broke into a shed at a local cemetery and stole a chainsaw, a battery charger and two toolboxes.

11:00 a.m. A flaring propane tank was quickly contained in Columbia Falls.

11:19 a.m. A woman in Martin City became worried when she hadn’t heard from her husband in quite some time. Authorities contacted the individual, who was perfectly fine.

12:27 p.m. A dog on Wettington Drive had no access to water. Authorities provided the dog with water and will be contacting the owner.

12:38 p.m. Someone heard children screaming in an apartment on East Idaho Street. Although a mother and her kids were indeed yelling at one another, the argument was verbal only and all was well.

2:06 p.m. Reports of a “man down” in Whitefish turned out to be a case of a simple leg cramp.

2:07 p.m. An intoxicated man with scraggly blonde hair and a red shirt stumbled down Highway 2. The man could not be located the responding officers.

2:31 p.m. Someone was burning plastic on Whitefish Stage Road, causing mass amounts of black smoke. The fire was hastily extinguished upon arrival of the Evergreen Fire Department.

2:42 p.m. An officer shut her finger in a door at the Flathead County Detention Center.

3:46 p.m. A vehicle hit a moose on Highway 2 near Glacier Park. No individuals were harmed in the crash.

3:49 p.m. A carburetor was stolen from a car at a local automotive shop.

4:00 p.m. Someone in Evergreen called to report that her grandson was assaulted by a 13-year-old on the way home from school.

4:12 p.m. A vicious dog of an unknown variety chased a young boy when he got off the bus on Solberg Drive.

4:57 p.m. A resident of Whitefish Stage Road called to report that his sister was currently on his property but had not been invited. The reporting party is currently in Las Vegas and was informed of the situation by a concerned neighbor.

5:49 p.m. Someone saw a small bear in a tree on Rhodes Draw.

6:04 p.m. A woman in Bigfork was frightened when an unfamiliar man called her on the telephone. The strange caller evidently knew her first name.

8:24 p.m. A 24-year-old woman shoplifted a plaid skirt and some jewelry from an Evergreen box store.

8:52 p.m. Authorities trapped a bear on Griz Lane.

8:59 p.m. A resident of Woodland Drive arrived home to find a strange white van parked in their yard. It was later found that the van had simply broken down at that location.

9:22 p.m. Someone saw what was described as a “big fireball” in the sky on the north side of Hash Mountain. Although the reporting party believed it to be an aircraft, all planes in the area were fully accounted for and all was well.

11:04 p.m. A dead deer obstructed Highway 93.

11:15 p.m. DVDs and CDs were stolen from a home on Parliament Drive.

11:50 p.m. A dead deer obstructed Foys Canyon Road.
