Chris Peterson: 100 days in Glacier National Park

By Beacon Staff

I love bumping into local photographer and Glacier Park Magazine editor Chris Peterson when I’m on assignment. He is not only a gracious shooter who always shares his photographic space – it’s usually a press conference or news event where there are a number of us bumping lenses – but he always has a story to tell about his last hike or visit to Glacier National Park. I was so pleased to see that the Boston Globe blog, The Big Picture, profiled a number of Peterson’s images from his 100 days in Glacier National Park project.

See The Big Picture post here.

Using a mix of digital and film cameras – including an 8 by 10 field camera, a Kodak Pocket Vest camera (circa 1909) and a Speed Graphic – Peterson documented Glacier National Park for 100 consecutive days starting on May 1, 2009. By using cameras that were used to document the Park over the last 100 years, Peterson pays homage to a place he obviously loves as well as the photographers who have proceeded him. The project will be a traveling show in 2010 and will also be available in a special edition of the Glacier Park Magazine due out in March 2010 with never published before images.
