Church Group Helps Devastated North Dakota Town
Minot and surrounding area devastated by 2011 flood
Nearly two years after an historic flood ravaged Minot, North Dakota, a local church group is heading east to lend a helping hand. The St. Peter Lutheran Church in Whitefish is looking for volunteers and donations for two trips to North Dakota this year.

In June 2011, the Souris River hit a record-breaking 9.5 feet above flood stage, forcing the evacuation of nearly 10,000 people in Minot and the surrounding area. Today, 145 families are still homeless. St. Peter Lutheran will be sending a busload of volunteers to donate their time and talents from June 23 to 29 and Sept. 29 to Oct. 5. The church is looking for donations to pay for the trip and any additional money raised will be donated to relief efforts in Minot. Also, Thrivent Financial is donating 50 cents on the dollar for funds raised before March 31.

Anyone wishing to donate can send checks to the St. Peter Lutheran Church, PO Box 883, Whitefish, MT. 59937. For more information, call (406) 862-3008.
