Clark Fork Section to Reopen to Boaters

By Beacon Staff

HELENA — State parks officials say a 2 ½ mile stretch of the Clark Fork River closed since 2006 will be reopened next month to boating and swimmers.

The stretch of river east of Missoula had been closed for restoration work at the former Milltown Dam site.

Montana State Parks officials say the Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission on Thursday approved opening the stretch on May 1.

The river’s banks will stay closed to allow newly planted vegetation to grow. Gravel bars will be open.

The commission also extended a closure to boating, floating and swimming for another year on 1 ½ miles of the lower Blackfoot River because of obstructions in the water.
