Columbia Falls Eagle Scout chosen for Naval Academy appointment

By Beacon Staff

It seems like an awfully long time since his backpack tipped him over during his first Boy Scout summer camp at Idaho’s Camp Cowles on Diamond Lake.

Now Weston Bartkoski, an Eagle Scout from Columbia Falls Boy Scout Troop 41, is just weeks away from heading to a bigger “camp”: The U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland.

Weston was pulled out of class at Columbia Falls High School earlier this month and called to the school lobby. When he got there, he found Senator Baucus, who informed him of the offer of appointment to the Naval Academy. Weston and his family visited the Annapolis campus this past weekend, where Weston accepted an appointment to the Naval Academy.

Bartkoski will head to the Academy after graduation for Plebe Summer. He will major in Aeronautical Engineering.
