Creston Man Pleads Guilty to Gun Charge

By Beacon Staff

A fugitive accused of causing a disturbance at a Creston home and then shooting at sheriff’s deputies has been convicted of federal weapons charges.

Daniel Schwindt pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The 40-year-old Schwindt entered the guilty plea late last week in U.S. District Court in Missoula. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison, three years of supervised release and $250,000 in fines.

Schwindt is also wanted in Oregon for parole violation.

A co-defendant in the Creston incident, 37-year-old Brian Rendon, pleaded guilty in August to possession of a firearm by an unlawful drug user. Both men are jailed and awaiting sentencing.
