A 46-year-old Creston man who surrendered Monday evening after a daylong standoff with law enforcement has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend.
Robert Kowalski was arrested at his house Monday evening after Flathead County deputies shot cans of tear gas into his house.
Deputy Flathead County Attorney Allison Howard says she filed the murder charge Monday.
Sheriff Mike Meehan said the body of 45-year-old Lorraine Morrin was found in a chair in the living room of her house near Columbia Falls. She had been shot once in the mouth.
Meehan said Kowalski's roommate called 911 Sunday to report that Kowalski said he had killed his girlfriend and was feeling suicidal. Officers surrounded Kowalski's house until his arrest.
