Derailment: Crews Work to Reopen Tracks After Derailment

PLAINS – Montana Rail Link says the reopening of tracks closed by a derailment near Plains is expected around 5 p.m. Spokeswoman Lynda Frost says as many as 30 trains are stalled while waiting for the tracks to open.

A 19-car train derailed on Wednesday, sending about 37 tons of soybeans into the Clark Fork River.

Reopening of the tracks had been anticipated earlier, but Frost says work to remove derailed cars has taken longer than officials expected.

A section of a state highway, Montana 200, was closed by the derailment and has not reopened.

No one was injured in the derailment, which happened about 2½ miles west of Plains.

Frost says the cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
