Daines, Tester Commend Miss Montana’s ‘Courage’

By Beacon Staff

Montana Congressman Steve Daines spoke on the U.S. House floor to commend Miss Montana Alexis Wineman, who competed in the Miss America pageant over the weekend. Wineman, the youngest participant at this year’s competition and the first to have been diagnosed with autism, received the “America’s Choice” award given to the contestant who received the most viewer votes online.

Wineman, of Cut Bank, made the top 15. Mallory Hytes Hagan, from New York, was crowned Miss America 2013.

Here’s Daines’ floor speech.

Montana Sen. Jon Tester also congratulated Wineman.

“Sharla and I join all Montanans in congratulating Alexis and thanking her for her groundbreaking courage. Alexis set out to raise awareness of autism. She made history doing just that while inspiring millions with humor, grace and acceptance. Alexis is an extraordinary representative of Montana and more importantly, the human spirit.”

Congratulations, Alexis. You made every Montanan proud.
