DUI Program Reaches Milestone
Attorney General says 100,000 alcohol breath tests have so far been conducted
HELENA — Montana Attorney General Steve Bullock says 100,000 alcohol breath tests have so far been conducted under the state's year-old drunken driving enforcement program.

The 24/7 Sobriety Program forces repeat DUI offenders to undergo daily alcohol tests at their own expense. It went into place last October.

Bullock says that more than 99 percent of the tests have tested negative for alcohol. He says that is proof the program is keeping repeat offenders sober.

The attorney general says 20 counties are participating: They are Anaconda-Deer Lodge, Beaverhead, Big Horn, Blaine, Broadwater, Butte-Silver Bow, Custer, Flathead, Gallatin, Granite, Jefferson, Lincoln, Lewis and Clark, Musselshell, Powell, Sanders, Sheridan, Stillwater, Sweet Grass and Yellowstone.

The attorney general's office says the 100,000th test came more than a week before Labor Day.

@NPDXReporter I think I'll start strategically calling it "pre-lunch" too, and then "forget" to eat my real lunch later. #dessertforlunch
