By Beacon Staff

An early morning fire caused extensive damage to the exterior of a Cally Lane house in Kalispell on Thursday, though much of the interior of the house survived unscathed.

According to a report from the Kalispell Fire Department, a passerby called to report the fire at 127 Cally Lane at about 2:10 a.m. on Dec. 26. Responding fire crews found that a fire starting on the exterior of the house had spread to the attic space. Crews were able to put the fires out quickly with a direct attack.

Everyone in the house was safely outside before fire crews got there, KFD reported.

The cause of the fire is believed to be flammable items stored near the heating lamp used for the chicken coop next to house. There was minimal damage to the interior of the home, though the damage to exterior of the house, the deck area and the attic space was extensive, resulting in about $35,000 in damage.

Kalispell Fire, the Evergreen Fire Department, the Kalispell Police Department, Flathead Electric Cooperative and NorthWestern Energy responded to the fire.
