Economists See Slow Growth in Montana

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – University of Montana economists predict that the state will see slow growth for the next few years.

University of Montana economist Patrick Barkey says the recession has impacted almost every corner of the state.

He predicts that recovery will not produce significant job growth until 2011.

The news comes in a Bureau of Business and Economic Research outlook that will be presented in nine Montana cities in the coming weeks.

The economists say the impacts are greater in western Montana, and the Flathead area is the state’s recession epicenter.
