Elrod, Peterson Schools Earn Academic Achievement Awards
Both schools are on a nine-year streak of meeting federal progress goals
The Montana Office of Public Instruction has recognized both Elrod Elementary and Lillian Peterson Elementary for their amazing nine-year streak of meeting adequate yearly progress goals in the state. The school's both receive $3,897 as part of the Academic Achievement Award.

The Adequate Yearly Progress report was first started by the No Child Left Behind Act implemented during the 2001-02 school year. The progress report is a measurement defined by the Federal Government that allows the Department of Education to see how every school in a district is performing academically. These academic assessments are carried out through standardized tests administered on a yearly basis.

“Kalispell School District 5 has remained focused within each building and collaborating between the different elementary schools on student achievement in reading and math over the past nine years," Jeff Hornby, Elrod Elementary principal, said in a statement. "It doesn’t matter which school in Kalispell a student attends, the similarities in instruction have resulted in success at all sites. I am very proud of the work we have done as a district and appreciate the recognition we have received."

@NPDXReporter I think I'll start strategically calling it "pre-lunch" too, and then "forget" to eat my real lunch later. #dessertforlunch
