Eureka Man Accused of Shooting at Deputies was on Drugs

By Beacon Staff

Lincoln County officials say a Eureka man accused of shooting at a deputy was under the influence of drugs, had pointed a rifle at his friend and shot through the roof of a trailer earlier that day.

County Attorney Bernie Cassidy said 55-year-old Harry Sultzer was shot twice in the chest Tuesday night, after leading deputies on a chase and then pointing a rifle at them.

Sultzer’s friend said Sultzer pointed a loaded gun at his head and fired a shot through the roof of the trailer earlier Tuesday.

Deputy Steve Short later spotted Sultzer’s truck and tried to pull him over, but Sultzer sped back to the trailer. Short says Sultzer got out of the truck and pointed a rifle at him from 20 feet away.

Sultzer is being treated at the Kalispell hospital.
