EXPLORE: Montana Pond Hockey Classic

By Beacon Staff

It’s been a hit in New England and Canada, and now it’s coming to the Flathead Valley: The Kalispell Convention and Visitor Bureau is hosting the Montana Pond Hockey Classic at Foys Lake west of Kalispell.

The event is slated for Feb. 21-23 and features more than 50 teams.

The Pond Hockey Classic was established on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire’s White Mountains and has since expanded.

The event features a four-on-four pond hockey tournament and teams have been signing up for weeks. According to organizers, two of the New England-based tournaments annually attract between 125 and 225 teams from across the U.S. Kalispell organizers believe the event will attract about 600 participants and roughly 1,200 spectators on each of the three days.

Events kick off Thursday, Feb. 20, with player check in and a party at Tamarack Brewing Company in Lakeside. On Friday and Saturday games start at 8:30 a.m. and on Sunday playoff games kick off at 9 a.m.

The championship games start at 1:30 p.m. and the awards are at 2:15.

There will also be a beer garden. For more information, visit .
