It’s tough being a state park in Northwest Montana, always having to shiver in the shadows of Glacier National Park. But with the government shutdown, here are five great spots that are just around the corner so that you can get your fall fix while Glacier is closed.
Whitefish Lake State Park: Stunning views of Whitefish Lake and Big Mountain can be had from this 10-acre preserve just north of Whitefish along U.S. Highway 93.
Yellow Bay State Park: This 15-acre site on the shores of Flathead Lake is a fantastic getaway just down the road from Bigfork.
Placid Lake State Park: Make this 31-acre park near Seeley Lake your base as you explore the Clearwater and Swan River valleys.
Thompson Falls State Park: There’s great fishing, boating and bird watching to enjoy at this site located along the Clark Fork River near Thompson Falls.
Logan State Park: Located between Kalispell and Libby on U.S. Highway 2, this great state park has wonderful views along the north shore of Middle Thompson Lake.
