EXPLORE: Polebridge Mercantile

By Beacon Staff

The Polebridge Mercantile, tucked up the North Fork and neighboring the west side of Glacier National Park, is in the final week of its 98th year.

The “Merc” is open everyday, except Thanksgiving, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., until Nov. 25. Visitors can still enjoy the savory pastry items and other baked goods throughout the week.

In order to guarantee there will be enough Huckleberry Bear Claws or other specialty treats and to help staff prepare accordingly, it’s recommended to call 24 hours ahead and place a special order. A menu can be found online at the Mercantile’s Facebook page, or by calling 888-5105.

The Mercantile was built in 1914 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It remains a classic piece of Montana history and, combined with the scenic drive along the North Fork Flathead River and the edge of Glacier Park, it’s a destination worth seeking.

The Merc reopens in May.

How To Get There:

From Columbia Falls, take Montana Highway 486, which becomes the North Fork Road, north roughly 35 miles.

The address is 265 Polebridge Loop. Sections of the road are unpaved.
