The Whitefish River Trails, also known as the Fish Trails, provide an excellent way to get outside during the winter months.
These paved pedestrian and bike trails wind through the city of Whitefish, covering everything from the City Beach area to the U.S. Highway 93 and Montana Highway 40 intersection.
All along the way, the calm and meandering Whitefish River provides scenic views.
In all, there are about 12 miles of trail through town and multiple access points. This time of year, the trail is plowed for year-round use. One particularly scenic section of trail is between JP and Monegan roads on the south side of Whitefish. From JP Road, near North Valley Hospital, the path winds along the river.
There is also a picnic shelter and bridge that crosses the river.
How to Get There
To get to the JP Road trailhead, drive south out of Whitefish along U.S. Highway 93.
Just after Don K Subaru, take a left on JP Road and drive three blocks.
The trailhead is at the intersection with River Lakes Parkway.
To get to the eastern trailhead, keep driving on JP Road and then take a left on Monegan until you see the trailhead.
