Fall Mack Days Action Heats Up on Flathead Lake

The third weekend of the Fall Mack Days saw 1,494 lake trout entries on Flathead Lake, the highest weekend total so far. Anglers struggled Friday with rough water but still brought in 342 trout. Max Martz of Corvallis was high angler with 51 entries. Saturday’s total was 548 with Alvin Haase of Stevensville the high angler with 47 entries. Sunday’s total was 604. Steve Benson from Four Lakes, Wash., turned in 59. Scott Bombard from Missoula and Terry Krogstad each had 56. The total for the first three weekends is 4,257.

Mike Benson of Lonepine leads anglers with a total of 378. Scott Bombard from Missoula is runner-up with 312, Max Martz of Corvallis is third, 306 followed by Benson, 294. Craig Morigeau from Polson is fifth, 187 and Phil Meredith from Kalispell is sixth, 173.

Kim McMillie of Ronan leads the ladies with 34. Sharon Beville from Lakeside is second with 27. Julie Vacca of Florence is third, 22, followed by Polson’s Susan Martin, 17.

In the youth 13-17 age group, Eric Sams of Polson leads with 36. Cody Ashbury from Missoula has 5 and Tom McDonald has 3. In the under 12 group, Mark Herzog from Missoula leads with five.

Thirty nine tagged lake trout have been turned in during the event totaling $4,700.

Up to $125,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the event. Mack Days ends on Nov. 11.
