Fall Mack Days Underway on Flathead Lake

By Beacon Staff

The Fall Mack Days fishing competition is underway and anglers have already landed over 1,300 lake trout from Flathead Lake.

The tally for the opening weekend, 1,302, was 38 above last year’s total. The annual competition continues Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until Nov. 2 and then continues for 10 straight days until Nov. 11.

Max Martz of Corvallis has taken the lead for adults with 116 entries. He had daily totals of 51, 31 and 34 over the weekend. Second place is held by Mike Benson of Lonepine with 104.

Kim McMillie of Polson leads the lady anglers with 13. Sharon Beville of Lakeside is second.

New to this year’s event is a “Heaviest Fish Contest.” It is for three days only — Sept. 28, Oct. 20 and Nov. 4. Anglers must mark their four heaviest lake trout entries before entering them at the check in stations. They will be put into a bucket and a weight take at Blue Bay or they will be put in bags and brought to Blue Bay from the check in sites. Points will be given for the top five places. Daily winners will receive $200 and the three-day winners will receive $500, $400 and $300, respectively.
