After some last-minute disrobing, a bit of psyching up and a 20-second countdown, participants in the Polar Bear Plunge rush into the cold water of Flathead Lake behind the Raven Brew Pub in Woods Bay on Jan. 1. The 35-degree water didn't deter plungers from around the state from testing their iron will and nerve in the annual event to celebrate the new year.
