Feds Warn of Fake $100 Bills in Montana

By Beacon Staff

GREAT FALLS – The federal government is asking people to be on alert after it received several reports that a large number of counterfeit $100 bills have been passed in Montana.

The Billings office of the U.S. Secret Service says the bills have been circulating through area businesses, particularly in Great Falls and Missoula.

Authorities say the fakes are actually $5 bills that have been bleached and reprinted to appear as if they were $100 bills. Under a UV light, the $5 polyester thread that is embedded in the paper will be visible.
