Fines Imposed for Dumping Into Flathead Lake

By Beacon Staff

MISSOULA – A development company and construction company that authorities say are responsible for dumping 400 cubic feet of dredged and fill material into Flathead Lake have been fined $15,000 by the Environmental Protection Agency.

The federal agency on Friday said the fines had been levied against Montana Eagle Development and McCrumb Construction of Polson.

Montana Eagle Development is the developer of the Lakeside Club.

The Missoulian reports that a third company that officials say discharged the fill into the lake in November of 2007 declined to enter into a settlement.

EPA official Kenneth Champagne says a separate complaint has been filed against Dockmaster of Polson proposing a $10,000 fine.
