Flathead County Republican Chair Backs French Over Rehberg

By Beacon Staff

Driving around the Flathead, I’ve seen a handful of political signs spring up in support Mark French, the Paradise conservative challenging incumbent Congressman Denny Rehberg in the June 8 Republican primaries. While French faces an uphill battle in unseating Rehberg, his Web site shows that he has picked up an endorsement from Ava Walters, chairperson of the Flathead Republican Party. Walters is quoted as saying:

“I find Denny Rehberg makes a great politician and certainly knows his way around Washington DC. After all, he has been there for 10 years. Denny Rehberg has served Montana fairly well, but I think it is time for a change. Since we have a great candidate in Mark French, I am supporting him as a private citizen and encourage all of you to join me in your support of Mark as well.

“This is a very crucial election. We have witnessed many unconstitutional actions taking place in Washington DC. The only antidote to Obama’s bad medicine will be an incoming class of freshman congressmen who will put their oath of allegiance to the Constitution above all other considerations, party affiliation notwithstanding. Only men and women determined to uphold the U.S. Constitution are worthy of our electoral trust, and only such can be expected endure the slings and arrows of the establishment and truly undo what has been done to our healthcare.”

From what I can tell, Walters is the only person currently holding a position with the GOP to endorse French. Sheriff Richard Mack and Dave Hart, the former state coordinator for Congressman Ron Paul’s presidential campaign, also back him.

Meanwhile, Rehberg recently announced that he had received endorsements from both the NRA Fund and Congressman Ron Paul himself.
