Flathead, Glacier Both Ranked in New Volleyball Poll

By Beacon Staff

Last week’s cross-town volleyball match between Flathead and Glacier was a rousing example of rivalry in action. The Wolfpack took the first two sets from the second-ranked Bravettes — the first team to do so in nine matches — with tight scores of 26-24 and 25-23. After that it was tooth and nail in a packed Flathead gymnasium. The Bravettes held on to win the next three sets 25-21, 25-21 and 15-13, claiming their ninth win in a row. The Bravettes lost their first matches in a month last weekend in Idaho and Washington.

The latest coaches’ power poll still has Flathead holding second place behind the undefeated Lady Broncs from Billings Senior. Glacier has moved into the fifth-place ranking. Flathead (8-0 in Western AA, 14-5 overall) remains atop the conference standings with three matches remaining — at Helena High Oct. 18, at Helena Capital Oct. 19 and at Missoula Big Sky Oct. 27. The Wolfpack (5-3, 11-5) are in third place in conference. They play at the Missoula Invitational this weekend before finishing out the season at Helena Oct. 18, at Capital Oct. 19, at Missoula Hellgate Oct. 23 and hosting Missoula Big Sky on senior night Oct. 25.

The state volleyball tournament begins Nov. 8 in Bozeman.
