Flathead National Forest Holding Public Meetings on Forest Plan Revision

By Beacon Staff

The Flathead National Forest is revising its overarching strategic forest plan and invites the public to participate in two upcoming meetings. FNF stakeholder collaboration meetings are set for Feb. 19 and Feb. 20 at the supervisor’s office at 650 Wolfpack Way in Kalispell. Officials are asking those interested in attending to register online.

The reference materials and agendas for the meetings are posted on the Meridian Institute website. The Feb. 19 meeting is 5:30-9 p.m. and will focus on habitat, vegetation and disturbance. The Feb. 20 meeting will look at recreation, access and wilderness.

Forest plans provide strategic direction to guide management of forest resources and provide a framework for decision making on site-specific projects and activities. The new planning rule directs Forest Plans to be science-based and developed collaboratively with stakeholders interested in the management of national forests.
