Flathead Soccer Camp Coach to Take Over UM Program

By Beacon Staff

Mark Plakorus, who has been the head coach of Kalispell’s Flathead Soccer Camp since 1998, has been chosen to take over the University of Montana women’s soccer program. Plakorus will leave Texas Christian University where he is an associate head coach. He was selected out of a pool of nearly 200 applicants to replace Neil Sedgwick.

Each summer, Plakorus comes to the Flathead to coach at the Flathead Soccer Camp, a renowned program founded by Kalispell orthodontist Mike Stebbins. He has developed an affinity for Montana during his visits to the Flathead. Now he can call the Treasure State home.

In a 2007 interview with the Beacon at the Flathead Soccer Camp, Plakorus discussed his fascination with Montana.

“I look forward to (the camp). I’ll work every day of the year (at TCU), but I have to have my time in Montana.”

Plakorus is the third coach in the 18-year history of the UM women’s soccer program. Among the players he is inheriting is former Glacier High School star Maddey Frey.
