Flood Advisory Issued for Glacier Park

By Beacon Staff

Heavy rain could cause rock and debris slides on Glacier National Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road this week, according to the National Weather Service. A flood advisory for Flathead County is in effect until Friday.

The advisory, issued on Thursday afternoon, states that prolonged thunderstorms and heavy rain is expected to hit the region tonight. A flood warning is also in effect for east of the Continental Divide.

Last summer, a powerful and sudden rainstorm in Glacier caused a dozen rockslides along the alpine section of the Sun Road. The slides trapped nearly 150 vehicles and damaged one car. Two people were treated for injuries and the road was closed for two days.
